The Cats

Josie

Josie is almost 16 years old. She is very demanding. If you are sitting on the couch she will paw at your arm until you pet her. If you don’t pet her she will give a sharp, curt “maow.” She is saying, “I see that you have hands and I see that they are not petting me. This is not acceptable.”

Roo

Roo is the only brother of three sibling cats. They are going to be 11 this year. Roo is the undisputed ruler of this house and he owns me. He sleeps where he wants, eats what he wants, and walks over the papers you are trying to read. He is also the most loving cat I have ever known. Every boyfriend that I have had in 11 years has been jealous of Roo.

Piglet

Piglet is about the most gentle cat in the world. She has six toes on her front paws. She quiet and calm and never bothers anyone. She likes affection and will come for a snuggle. But if you seem busy she says, “that’s alright, I can come back in a while.” Her only annoying habit is that she will only drink running water.

Tigger

Tigger is the needy one. She is in my lap right now. When I was in graduate school and working from home she was in my lap all day long. Even when I got up to get coffee, she would ride along on my shoulder. I don’t think her feet touched the ground in two years. She is also the tiniest of the siblings. She doesn’t weigh 6 pounds. Her neediness is well earned. Her mother (Mama Cat, she died 4 years ago) used to pick on her. When Mama would want outside, she would go find Tigger and smack her until I would open the door. That was just mean.
