The Extra Day

Feb 29th. Our extra day. What are you going to do with yours? Julia wrote today about cherry blossoms and renewal. With my new home beginning to come together I think renewal is an appropriate theme for me as well. So while I am settling into the new skin of my [...]

Home Sweet Home

Things I like about my new home:

It’s very pretty. Fresh paint, crown molding and a chair rail, nice hardwood floors everywhere, new floor and counter tops in the kitchen.
Big windows and lots of light.
Big deep bathtub I could swim in.
It’s warm–no gaping holes that let the wind blow in.
Less than 10 minutes to work
Great [...]

Wow, I’m lucky

So this week my wonderful horoscope says:
It’s a perfect time for you to enter into an unprecedented
phase of building. You’re ripe to dream up a host of creations for yourself
– to improvise and design and compose.
Good thing I’m moving and getting a fresh start to my life.  I mean good timing and all, right?  Still [...]

¡Voy a Cuba!

At long last my greatest wish my be granted.  With today’s news that Castro is stepping down for good, I may soon be able to go to the travel destination of my dreams.  With a bit of luck the next US President will have the good sense to lift the travel restrictions to the island.  [...]

The End in Sight?

This begins my last week in my old home. It’s Monday morning and I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. I had yard sale on Saturday. I vowed that whatever did not sell was going to good will. I sold a lot but two carloads still had to [...]

There Will Be Blood

I went to see There Will Be Blood this afternoon. All I can say is that the movie was a perfect illustration that there are men in this world so heartless and so cruel that they truly have no soul.
Daniel Day Lewis’ character, Daniel Plainview says, “I see the worst in people. I [...]

Miche to Visit!

Tonight Michelle and I are going to see Christine Kane somewhere secret.  Seriously, it’s very covert.  I don’t think the hosts intend for it to be so cloak and dagger but that is how it’s turning out.  The idea is that performance is present like a French Salon, where you go to a private home [...]

Shelby’s Oscars Update

Sixteen Days to the Oscars, and fifteen days until I move, busy and broke–I don’t think I will get to see all of the movies I wanted to. Still left:
Michael Clayton
There Will Be Blood
In the Valley of Elah
La Vie En Rose
Away from Her
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
The Savages
Charlie Wilson’s War
The Assassination of Jesse James by [...]

Apahty

I’ve told this story before but never here I don’t think. I was living in Georgia and it was election day. And as I have done every election day since I turned 18, I was standing in line at my polling station waiting my turn to cast my vote. In front of [...]
